Two of the most common questions players ask is “Which hero is better?” and “Which perks to take?”
Having a go at answering this requires (among other things) an understanding of how Hero Skills interact with Perks:
Hero | Skill | Advantaged Perks | Disadvantaged Perks |
---|---|---|---|
Mr. Autofire | None | None | None |
Dr. Toxic | Venom Shots | None | None |
Frostina | Snowball | Piercing and Bouncy Walls make a big impact, which is why starting with the Looper / Laser Rifle is very useful. For endless runs it might be OK to lose a perk roll to get Piercing (it’s a very common perk so you will almost certainly get it) and Ghost + Dimensional shots might be an alternative to Bouncy (but Ghost itself is uncommon and Dimensional is as rare as Super Homing / Dividing, so you won’t get this often) |
Shrapnel and elemental perks (Ice, Zap, Fire, Poison (*2)) do not benefit from Snowball |
Blazia | Wrath | Focus Shots | Shrapnel and elemental perks (Ice, Zap, Fire, Poison(*2)) do not benefit from Wrath |
Arctor | Freeze | Speed perks and Indirect hits will help Freeze enemies faster | None |
Scorcher | Stress Shot | Shrapnel (except Death), Ice/Improved Ice, Zap | If you are able to play him for his Passive (i.e. at reduced health), Speed perks are slightly less impactful because they add to the passive (so while generally Attack Speed > Attack Up, for him it might be the opposite) |
Miasma | Absorb | None | None |
Armorita | Gravity Well | None | None |
Firebug | Fiery Wings | Triple Jump, Jet Pack, Springs and Balloon will increase the up-time of Fiery Wings; Shrapnel (except Death), Ice/Improved Ice, Zap will occur more often |
Speed perks are slightly less impactful because they add to the passive (so while generally Attack Speed > Attack Up, for her it might be the opposite) Fiery Wings won’t trigger when using Ninja Time Stop and Sustained Fire don’t work if you are jumping for speed, but are handy as insurance for when you need to stay still |
Fursus | Iceplosion | Speed perks, Shrapnel and Indirect hits (*1) | None of the Attack perks (Big Attack Up, Gun Heart, Fast Shots, Power Tripper, Berserk) increase the Iceplosion damage |
Hocus Focus | Clairvoyance | None | None |
Hecate | Magic Bubble | None | None of the Attack perks (Big Attack Up, Gun Heart, Fast Shots, Power Tripper, Berserk) increase the Magic Bubble damage |
Jackbot | Jackpot | Speed perks, Shrapnel and Indirect hits (*1) | Many - see the Jackbot listing |
Mortis | Plague Cloud | Speed perks, Shrapnel and Indirect hits (*1) | None of the Attack perks (Big Attack Up, Gun Heart, Fast Shots, Power Tripper, Berserk) increase the Plague Cloud damage and perhaps the already useless Poison may be a little less useful now that the Plague Cloud also poisons enemies |
Prospero | Magic Bullets | Elemental Perks (Ice, Fire, Poison, Zap) because Magic Bullets trigger them |
Berserk doesn’t improve Magic Bullets damage (whereas other Attack perks - Big Attack Up, Gun Heart, Fast Shots and Power Tripper - do) |
Mrs. Surefire | Crowd Control | Shrapnel (except Death), Ice/Improved Ice, Zap | Speed perks are slightly less impactful because they add to the passive (so while generally attack speed > attack up, for her it might be the opposite) |
Shiver | Cryo Shield | None | None |
Note:
*1 All of these are hit based proc’s, and are more likely to trigger when having more hits/second
*2 - Fire and Poison are generally undesirable perks - they don’t do much damage and they pollute the perk pool with their “improved” versions
